In 1995 after a successful career as a chef throughout Europe, David Kerr and wife Lisa returned to New Zealand. David and Lisa found an opportunity of purchasing the Museum Café adjacent to the Waikato Museum. David and Lisa successfully ran the Museum Café for 13 years, in this time receiving many awards and accolades. The restaurant had prospered and at the same time the pair offered a high end out-catering service.
In July 2009 David and Lisa's recently opened
Pumice Café and was nominated regional winner of the
‘Café of the Year’ (by Café Magazine). This followed with
Pumice Bistro being nominated as a National finalist for
‘Best New Bar/Restaurant of the Year’ (by the Hospitality Association of New Zealand).
